this week - friday 22 april 2016

Blues skies have been the order this week causing huge smiles all round…amazing what a bit of sun does for the soul. I hope you have had good weather too?

All in all a good week, apart from a little blip early on, but I stood my ground and that, at least, felt good.

Did you know it was National Tea Day yesterday here in the UK.  Although, it is National Tea Day every day in our house! If you are interested, here is an article from The Telegraph about tea, including instructions on how to make the perfect cuppa by George Orwell {fantastic!}.

It was the last week of this round of Love Notes and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Creating my partners postcards has been fun and receiving hers has been a joy!

I hope your week has been good? Wishing you a great weekend!

Happy Friday folks and how has your week been?

Mine has been good, work was busy, which I like, we have some great events planned, one of my favourites being the Vintage Hop in June. I feel lucky to work in a job that is varied and interesting. That said, I am always happy when Friday rolls around!

Trevor has learnt a few new tricks this week, he will sit and go down on the ground on command. He has also learnt not to get on the sofa without first being invited {although he does sneak on sometimes…work in progress}. We will be attending his second training class tomorrow morning and I look forward to more good advise.

My dad got back from Portugal yesterday and he has had a brilliant time, I think it has done him good. He has enjoyed some great food, wine, sunshine and lots of lovely walks.

It’s the second week of Love Notes from Jennifer Belthoff, a really beautiful project for anyone who likes receiving snail mail {who doesn’t!}, so if you haven’t already joined up for one of the rounds, I would totally recommend you do.

Not much planned for the weekend here, I hope to read a little, maybe go in the garden, weather permitting. Do you have any plans.

Well, whatever you are up to, have a wonderful weekend!

this week - friday 8 april 2016This week, spring seems to have taken a back seat and invited winter take the wheel for a while, it has been wet and cold…brrrr! That said, everything continues as it should, the forsythia blooming {at last} and the birds are busy doing what they do at this time of year.

How are things in your neck of the woods? Good I hope!

I finished the owl drawing and framed it for my dad. He was very pleased. He is in Portugal for a week with friends, which should do him good, although it is his first time there without my mum, so may feel a little strange to begin with. I am sure the sunshine and good food will help.

My week has been busy and I am so glad for the weekend. Tomorrow we are taking Trevor to some training classes to see if he can feel a little happier around other dogs. We will see how that goes…watch this space.

Nothing much more planned for the rest of the weekend, just a lot of relaxing and Sunday promises good weather, so gardening may be a good idea.

If you fancy a bit of creative writing inspiration, Kim has added April’s prompts.

Wishing you a great weekend and hopefully some sunshine!

this week - friday 4 March 2016

This week went by in the blink of an eye, it seems only a few days since I was here last Friday!

There is much talk about exams, revision and college around here these days. We {my son} are a little stressed, and rightly so, there is a lot of pressure right now, but I know in my heart to hearts that all will be well.

I am currently not eating sweet treats {including chocolate, biscuits, cake….anything delicious really} in aid of The British Heart Foundation charity. I have managed four days so far, with a few wobbles. I have another 27 days to go, wish me luck!!

I have been reading a new {to me} book of poetry this week too. It’s called Letting Go by Angela Topping and the poems I have read so far have really struck a chord; they are real and beautiful and quite heart wrenching {for me, anyway}.

This week there has also been snow {came & went within a few hours}, blossom, hot lemon, candles and flowers…always flowers.

How was your week? I hope there were {are} some bright spots in it. Have a great weekend!

this week - friday 26 february 2016

Hello and how are you? Good week? I hope so.

First of all I cannot believe it is the last weekend of February. March is just around the corner and with it, hopefully, Spring…hooray! That said, the weather this week has been lovely, lots of sun, but very low temperatures. There was a good frost most morning this week, which I actually quite like. There is something about seeing my own breath that makes me feel like a child again.

I attended a friend’s mum’s funeral this week, it was a lovely and personal service, but incredibly sad all the same. I could put myself in my friend’s shoes just over a year ago and my heart went out to her. As with these things, we had a glass of wine and a lot of laughter afterwards, I think laughing is a kind of relief after a funeral.

My husband and I went to see my son in a music festival last night. It was the longest concert I have ever been to {I thought we might have to bed down for the night at one point} but the band my son is in sounded great and they came second in their category!

It is the last week of 28 Moments and I will be SO sad when it has ended, I have loved every minute…thank you, thank you, thank you Michelle. This week’s theme is home and I wrote this as response to a prompt, so I thought I would share it here too…

Home is where my heart is and where I hold the hearts of my loved ones close.
It is where I have laughed until I have cried.
It is where despair has descended bringing with it darkness, but where light has eventually penetrated.
It is where I nuzzled my son’s milky cheeks, laid him next to me and listened to his gurgling as the sun came up.
It is where we have shouted and silence has come as we thought of our cruel words and then realised how much love we have and the way our lives have been woven together over the years…and how lucky we are.
It is the place where friends come to eat and drink and laugh and be themselves.
It is where my mum was when I saw her last…she loved our home and that makes me so happy.
It is where I feel like me.
It is where a million memories have been made and are remembered, often.
It is the place I fall asleep and know all will be well.
It is HOME.
Wishing you a happy Friday and a good weekend x

this week - friday 19 february 2016

Hello and how are you, did you have a good week? I hope so.

Do you have snow? We were supposed to, but it never materialised. I wait and hope…

I have been focusing on nature this week, thanks to Michelle’s wonderful course 28 Moments. It has really made me look at everything, not just the usual pretty things nature offers, but the untidy bits too. Sometimes there is so much beauty to be found in the unexpected, the things you would ordinarily overlook…

Other news is, I have officially become a school governor, which is exciting and quite daunting at the same time. I have a lot to learn and I very much look forward to my new role and a bit of a challenge.

Also, I have one of my photographs on the front cover of a just-released book of poetry entitled ‘Echolocation’ by Becky Cherriman. I am so pleased with how it looks and cannot wait for a copy to arrive, not just for the photo, but to read Becky’s work. It is published by Mother’s Milk Books, a small press run by a bloggy friend of mine, Teika.

A happy Friday to you all and wishes for a wonderful weekend x

this week - 12 february 2016

This week has been a wonderful mix of quiet {extra }days off work and the usual routine. I used to work two and  half days when my son was younger, but now I work four days and sometimes I long to go back. I do feel lucky to always have a three day weekend, some people are not so fortunate, I know.

Taking part in 28 Moments continues to delight and inspire, so much loveliness to enjoy there, I am going to have to take part every February now, it makes this cold winter month so much more of a pleasure.

A parcel arrived this week from my friend Grace, she has sent me some note cards with her beautiful artwork on them, I was delighted. She is one talented {and lovely} lady!

I have just spent the afternoon with a great friend of mine, catching up, shopping and eating…one of the nicest ways to spend a few hours {especially when it involves a couple of beers too!}.

Apart from being a little tired, life has felt good this week, a few Spring flowers about the place always helps too.

Wishing you a happy Friday and a great weekend x

this week - friday 5th january 2016

It’s a very grey Saturday afternoon as I sit and type, but it feels cosy and that’s always good, right? We have had lots of bright sunny days this week, so I reckoned we were due a bit of rain…I was right.

It’s been a fairly quiet week, but that is no bad thing, I like quiet weeks. Obviously there has been work and we had a meal out with my dad, which was nice {the wine in the photo was kindly donated to me from my dad…he knows me}.

On Thursday my son had an open evening to attend at the college he wants to go to when he leaves school this year {my stomach flipped when I typed that}. My husband and I went along with him and it all looks pretty great. His career goal is something in music {maybe teaching} and the music department at the college seems really good, so it was all very positive. I felt incredibly excited for my son and so very proud of him {I am tearing up thinking about it all} I am blessed, that’s for sure.

Comfort food seems to have been the theme around here this week, lots of baked potatoes, pasta and a homemade cake {not terribly good for the waistline though!}. Food in general has been on my mind, as this week’s subject for Michelle’s wonderful offering 28 Moments is ‘food’. I cannot recommend her course enough, it is such a beautiful way to spend February.

Well that was my week, hope yours was good?

Have a really great weekend folks x

this week - friday 29 january 2016

Hello from a cold Saturday afternoon and how are you? A little late with this week’s ‘this week’, time just ran away with me yesterday…as it does sometimes, right? In fact, the whole week has gone fast, I guess with work, family life and caring for my friend’s cat, it has been pretty busy.

I always seem to feel a little lost in January and February, whether it is lack of light, lack of focus or just simply lack of energy {or all three!} I am usually a happier bunny by the time March rolls around. Not that I am wishing away my life here, Spring just gives hope and renewal and longer days…oh yes LONGER DAYS.

I am trying to drink a little less coffee/tea these days, in a bid to feel a little healthier, substituting them with green teas or peppermint tea, which thankfully I do enjoy. However, I do still have to have a caffeine hit in the morning, but during the day I am doing my best to abstain…it is a work in progress.

The weekend is going to involve recharging my batteries, getting as much fresh air as the weather allows and a meal out this evening with friends. How about yours?

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend x

this week - friday 22 january 2016Hello and how are you? How has your week been?

This week, for me, has been a good one, nothing earth shattering, but good all the same. There have been lots of frosty mornings {which I love} and clear blue wintry skies {which I also love}. Walking Trevor in the morning, before the world awakes, has been great, not sure he would agree however, his poor little paws must have been freezing!

My son purchased a guitar with his birthday money, so there has been strumming and a bit of frustration, but he seems to be getting there. He is a drummer, but fancied a go at another instrument, which I love. His musicality comes from his dad, definitely not me. Much as I love listening to it, there isn’t a musical bone in my body. Although, I did teach myself two lines of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star last weekend…you have to start somewhere…right??

I have made sure there have been Spring flowers in the house too this week, the hyacinths and tulips I bought last weekend are still going strong and the smell has literally filled the house. What’s your favourite Spring flower?

Tomorrow is the first anniversary of my mum’s death, which is feeling a little surreal. I just cannot believe it has been a year already. We are visiting the Crematorium tomorrow to see the Book of Remembrance and leave some flowers. I know realistically it is just another day, but a year seems so significant. We have all come such a long way in the past twelve months, our lives have changed forever, but I thank my mum every day for teaching me how to be a decent human being.

Well folks, that’s my week, a certain little furry friend needs a walk and there is pizza to be had and horror film to watch soon.

One more thing before I go. If you fancy 28 days of utter loveliness, then sign up for Michelle’s 28 Moments. It is an absolute delight, Michelle puts in so much hard work to make this course what it is and I cannot recommend it enough!

Sending you happiness and wishes for a great weekend, Jane x
