here & now…

Memories of the sea…I am dreaming of trips to the coast, feeling the sand between my toes and the taste of salt on my lips.

It is always this time of year that I yearn for the sea, for big skies and the vastness of the water beneath, making me feel small…I kind of like that, it’s grounding somehow. Do you know what I mean?

I cannot wait to feel the rhythm of the sea again; it excites and {sort of} scares me at the same time, it is fascinating and beautiful and I love the sound of it, the smell of it, the power of it.

Yes, it is time for a visit…

What are you yearning for, here & now?

Weekends

014

Joining in Weekends with the lovely Karen over at Pumpkin Sunrise.

The weekend has been slow, a really good, necessary kind of slow. Loading in washing, putting away the last of our holiday paraphernalia and not walking very far. We walked A LOT in Whitby, up hills, up steps, up cobbled streets, down to the beach, along the beach…you get the picture.

I am looking after the handsome boy in the picture too, he is a delight and a little monkey all at the same time, which makes him totally and utterly irresistible. I LOVE TED.

My husband and I reached our 19th Wedding Anniversary today, time certainly flies and how young we looked back then. We’ve had good times and bad {like all marriages} but we are still here and happy all these years later with our lovely son, a cosy home and a good life.

Tomorrow I return to work and to say I would rather not is an understatement, but work I must, so that is that.

I do hope your weekend has been a lovely one and I wish you a happy week ahead.

Peachy

Peachy

The ‘big’ fan has been retrieved from the shed and all the windows are pushed wide open. Sandals can at last be worn legitimately and the air con went straight on when I arrived at work this morning. Peaches are being scoffed, salads too.

There is a feeling of winding down…a longing for time off and slow mornings. Thoughts of our holiday in August…I can almost taste the salty air and feel the sand between my toes.

Summer has decided to show up…a little late to the party, but we won’t mention it.

Window

A window of opportunity

grasped with both hands;

a need for escape

on this fine day

with no school or work

we travelled to the coast

and breathed it all in.

Hoping for another window…maybe tomorrow,

to sit down and enjoy this.

On the road

On the road

On the road

with the day behind us

fresh air still in our lungs

and salt on our cheeks.

Cutting through the dark

we are homeward bound

with thoughts of sleep

and dreams of the sea.

Underneath

Flamborough Head

A summer’s day in March

with the sound of the sea, lapping.

Seagulls dipping, then soaring, high

and eating ice cream with the two people I love most.

~

Then, underneath a clear blue sky

we travelled home, us three.

To the right, the sun, slowly sinking

its colour, changing, from yellow-gold to vermilion.
