here & now

IMG_8437September has arrived and the gateway to autumn opens…

The light changes, I notice it more than any other time of the year, and I have to say, it makes me so happy.

Sometimes I think I shouldn’t look forward to a season so much because, let’s face it, the months fly by quickly enough as it is. But, autumn holds a special place in my heart. I love the slight chill in the air, the low sun, the knowledge that soon we will be cosied up in the evenings and oh, the sunsets.

Autumn is coming and my heart sings.

Wishing you a new month filled with good things.

here & now…

016…we are counting down to exams. I can hardly believe my son will leave school in 8 weeks, it seems only a short while since his first day there. My, how the past five years has flown!

…I am enjoying the light that spring brings and the way it paints itself on walls and furniture around our home.

…there seems to be quite a lot of waking through the night. Not sure why? I guess these things happen and I am certain it is just a blip {finger crossed}.

…I am reading this book. I am surprised and delighted at how much I am enjoying it. The reviews I read for it were mixed and I was unsure of the subject matter, yet curious at the same time. Halfway in I am finding it fascinating. It’s good sometimes to read outside of your comfort zone. What are you reading just now?

How is your here & now? Really good, I hope.

Sunday {Gratitude Week 2015}

024 - Copy

First of all I would like to say a heartfelt thanks to Michelle for making this week possible x

Today I am grateful for…

…the power of gratitude and how the littlest thing can make a bad day good.

…my son, for the person he is becoming, for the fact he has a voice {and style} of his own. For the way he procrastinates over his art homework, but does it eventually {and does it well}. For all he is and the love he gives…I am so very grateful.

…quiet Sundays.

…the need to carry on this practice.

…knowing that life isn’t perfect and doesn’t have to be to make you happy {darkness is always followed by light, this I know}.

Sharing gratitude for seven days as part of Gratitude Week 2015 with Michelle.

Finding light

I have struggled to find the light this week. I have felt anxious and sad and in all honesty, I don’t think I have been a very nice person to be around.

It’s been a tough year with such a big loss and giving support to others, I know I have let my self-care slip.

But, as I lit candles tonight, I was struck by this thought, ‘when there doesn’t seem to be any light, perhaps the only way forward is to make your own’.

Tomorrow is a new day, Autumn is my favourite season, it is time to care for me and find the light.

Sending a little light your way too xx

‘How far that little candle throws his beams’ ~ William Shakespeare

Today, here in the UK, it’s National Poetry Day. There are some great resources on the website, which you will find here including this wonderful anthology.

The theme this year is ‘light’, so I thought I would write my own poem to celebrate the day.

The low October sun
Holds me in golden light
As I tread a carpet
Of fallen Autumn leaves.

I also want to share this poem as I think it is simply delightful…

Autumn ~ T. E. Hulme

A touch of cold in the Autumn night-
I walked abroad,
And saw the ruddy moon lean over a hedge
Like a red-faced farmer.
I did not stop to speak, but nodded,
And round about were the wistful stars
With white faces like town children.

I hope you are having a great Thursday?
