here & now…

img_8478…normal life has resumed after a crazy-busy period at work. The end result was so rewarding, but my body aches in places I didn’t know existed.

I was so happy tonight just to have time to make a simple meal {pasta & sauce is always a winner in this house} after two weeks of chasing my tail.

My son has just finished his first week at college and I am pleased to say, after a shaky first day, he loves it! What a relief and how proud I am at how he adjusts and just goes with the flow, I could learn a lot from that kid.

I have just returned from a lovely walk in the park, enjoying half an hour of peace and quiet and the sweet smell of Autumn.

How is your here & now?

here & now

IMG_8262IMG_8264It is a sunny afternoon and I can see the washing blowing on the line outside as I tap away on my keyboard. There are some pretty flowers, from a friend, on the table and as I admire them I am also thinking that it has been far too long since I was last here. I have REALLY missed this space, my little escape. I have missed my friends here, too.

I won’t bore you with details of why I haven’t been here, just that work is very busy and life in general, and it’s been hard to focus on other things. You know how it is sometimes.

I have felt a slight shift in the seasons since my last post, while the days are warm, the odd morning has been chilly and foggy, a sign that autumn is not so far away {Karen, I know you will be glad to see that word}. I love autumn, I know the days shorten, but it just feels right to me {for me}. I believe we all have a season that is our own and mine is definitely autumn. I’d love it if you would share ‘your’ season.

I do hope you are all well and enjoying your days.

Bye for now and take care x

peony…this pink peony is on the kitchen windowsill, faded yet resplendent and a reminder that spring is not imagined {we are having real cold snap}.

…I am happy to have the time to blog. I have missed this space and the friends who visit me here. Hello : )

…my son is in the middle of his GCSE exams. He is remarkably calm about it all {this is good, I think?}. I remember being a wreck!

…I am looking forward to 10 days off work {whoop, whoop}.

How does your here and now look?

Weekends

weekends 10 April 2016

{Sharing my weekend with Karen at Pumpkin Sunrise, always a warm and lovely place to visit}

Some weekends are slow to unfold with hours idly going by at their own pace and some seem to be over before you know it. Mine has been the latter, but no matter it has been enjoyable all the same. How was {is} yours?

Yesterday my husband and I took Trevor to doggy training classes and it was, well, interesting. Initially he wanted to pick a fight with every dog in the place, including the trainers beautiful Border Collie {luckily she was very laid back about it}. Overall though I think this is going to be a good thing for Trevor, he is a terrier and they do have a tendency to think they are ‘it’ with other dogs, so hopefully we will be able to educate him otherwise. Watch this space.

Today, as promised, has been beautifully bright, so some garden tidying has been done, ironing, dog walking and pottering around the house. Truth be known I had plans to get loads more done, but it doesn’t seem to have worked out that way.

Anyway, time to dry my hair and get ready for the second part of a new series called ‘The Durrells’, last week’s was excellent, so I cannot wait!

Wishing you a great week ahead, whatever it holds, Jane x

this week {words & pictures}

this week - friday 4 March 2016

This week went by in the blink of an eye, it seems only a few days since I was here last Friday!

There is much talk about exams, revision and college around here these days. We {my son} are a little stressed, and rightly so, there is a lot of pressure right now, but I know in my heart to hearts that all will be well.

I am currently not eating sweet treats {including chocolate, biscuits, cake….anything delicious really} in aid of The British Heart Foundation charity. I have managed four days so far, with a few wobbles. I have another 27 days to go, wish me luck!!

I have been reading a new {to me} book of poetry this week too. It’s called Letting Go by Angela Topping and the poems I have read so far have really struck a chord; they are real and beautiful and quite heart wrenching {for me, anyway}.

This week there has also been snow {came & went within a few hours}, blossom, hot lemon, candles and flowers…always flowers.

How was your week? I hope there were {are} some bright spots in it. Have a great weekend!

this week {words & pictures}

this week - friday 26 february 2016

Hello and how are you? Good week? I hope so.

First of all I cannot believe it is the last weekend of February. March is just around the corner and with it, hopefully, Spring…hooray! That said, the weather this week has been lovely, lots of sun, but very low temperatures. There was a good frost most morning this week, which I actually quite like. There is something about seeing my own breath that makes me feel like a child again.

I attended a friend’s mum’s funeral this week, it was a lovely and personal service, but incredibly sad all the same. I could put myself in my friend’s shoes just over a year ago and my heart went out to her. As with these things, we had a glass of wine and a lot of laughter afterwards, I think laughing is a kind of relief after a funeral.

My husband and I went to see my son in a music festival last night. It was the longest concert I have ever been to {I thought we might have to bed down for the night at one point} but the band my son is in sounded great and they came second in their category!

It is the last week of 28 Moments and I will be SO sad when it has ended, I have loved every minute…thank you, thank you, thank you Michelle. This week’s theme is home and I wrote this as response to a prompt, so I thought I would share it here too…

Home is where my heart is and where I hold the hearts of my loved ones close.
It is where I have laughed until I have cried.
It is where despair has descended bringing with it darkness, but where light has eventually penetrated.
It is where I nuzzled my son’s milky cheeks, laid him next to me and listened to his gurgling as the sun came up.
It is where we have shouted and silence has come as we thought of our cruel words and then realised how much love we have and the way our lives have been woven together over the years…and how lucky we are.
It is the place where friends come to eat and drink and laugh and be themselves.
It is where my mum was when I saw her last…she loved our home and that makes me so happy.
It is where I feel like me.
It is where a million memories have been made and are remembered, often.
It is the place I fall asleep and know all will be well.
It is HOME.
 …
 Wishing you a happy Friday and a good weekend x
