here & now…

…I am optimistic. I now know that the desperate pain of grief fades and is replaced with happy memories. I also know the longing to see my mum again will never go away, but I am okay with that.

This time of year reminds me so much of my mum. She was an avid gardener and loved the busyness and doing this season brings. Last year spring felt a little bittersweet, but this year, not in the midst of fresh grief, I can fondly remember my mum in her garden.

There are some things in life that we cannot change, we just have to learn to live with them {or without them}.

Here & now I want to thank you for visiting me and taking time to comment, for the connection. This space was somewhere I could ‘escape to’ last year when I couldn’t express myself in any other way. I will be ever grateful for that and for you.

Have a great week x

…the mornings {even at 7 am} feel like day has begun, rather than night ending and arriving home in the evening with daylight is like a gift.

I love the promise of this time of year, the coming out of darkness, the shedding of layers and the hope it evokes.

I love the quiet company of the blackbirds, hopping on bushes as I walk by, or watching me from the apple tree.

Yes, here & now winter is retreating, giving way gracefully to a new season…

How is your here & now?

Memories of the sea…I am dreaming of trips to the coast, feeling the sand between my toes and the taste of salt on my lips.

It is always this time of year that I yearn for the sea, for big skies and the vastness of the water beneath, making me feel small…I kind of like that, it’s grounding somehow. Do you know what I mean?

I cannot wait to feel the rhythm of the sea again; it excites and {sort of} scares me at the same time, it is fascinating and beautiful and I love the sound of it, the smell of it, the power of it.

Yes, it is time for a visit…

What are you yearning for, here & now?

this week {words & pictures}

this week - friday 4 March 2016

This week went by in the blink of an eye, it seems only a few days since I was here last Friday!

There is much talk about exams, revision and college around here these days. We {my son} are a little stressed, and rightly so, there is a lot of pressure right now, but I know in my heart to hearts that all will be well.

I am currently not eating sweet treats {including chocolate, biscuits, cake….anything delicious really} in aid of The British Heart Foundation charity. I have managed four days so far, with a few wobbles. I have another 27 days to go, wish me luck!!

I have been reading a new {to me} book of poetry this week too. It’s called Letting Go by Angela Topping and the poems I have read so far have really struck a chord; they are real and beautiful and quite heart wrenching {for me, anyway}.

This week there has also been snow {came & went within a few hours}, blossom, hot lemon, candles and flowers…always flowers.

How was your week? I hope there were {are} some bright spots in it. Have a great weekend!

Let’s mark today,

let’s mark every day,

with some small beauty

{or big, if you like}.

Let’s open our eyes and look

{really look}

closely at a flower

or a leaf,

or a loved ones face.

Yes, let’s mark today

with a photo

or words, just three

or three hundred;

about how we feel,

about the coming season,

about anything.

Let’s mark today.

…I am noticing more and more signs of Spring, the Blackbirds are busy, how I love to watch them tugging on worms fresh from the earth.

Days are lengthening and I am leaving to and returning from work in light…joy upon joy!

Though the days are still cold, there is that tingle in the air, a sense of newness. Do you feel it too?

28 Moments has come to an end, I am incredibly sad, but hugely grateful for its wonderful company throughout February and thanks to you Michelle for this beautiful offering.

Right this moment as I type I am tired and oh so ready for bed {and oh so grateful for that bed} so I will say goodnight with the hope that your here & now is treating you well.

P.S. If you fancy a bit of creative inspiration, why not pop over to Spiral Spun for March prompts.
