Blanket

Saffron leaves

Fallen souls of summer hang

on branches, half bare, awaiting winter’s

hand to sweep them clean and leave

a blanket of golden leaf-shaped flowers

where we tread.

Inspired by yesterday’s writealm prompt ‘blanket’.

  1. Such a lovely poem Jane, I particularly like those opening words ‘Fallen souls of summer’ – a very wistful feel I think. Great photo too, super yellows and golds :)) xx

    1. Thanks so much Ellie, bit of a tumbleweed situation going on here re. writing so I was giddy when inspiration struck! I enjoyed writing this xx

  2. The tumbleweed’s been rolling in around here too – thank goodness for Wordless Wednesday. Although even getting the right photo for that lately can be a bit tricky!! I need to get my head out of photography books and get it out and about taking photos!!

  3. Lovely poem, a blanked of …, you used the right words. Here with all the wind around this week there is no one blanked left. The winter arrived early and strong making everything and everywhere gray.

Your thoughts are always welcome...
