Bloom

Bloom

Greeting us as we let in the light

watching in the darkness

as we shut out the night.

~

Bare in winter, yet, possessing still;

in summer welcome shade,

and early autumn, heavy with fruit.

~

But spring is the season you bloom,

flush with leaves and gentle blossom,

alive with birdsong and the hum of bees.

~

Oh, how we love you, our apple tree.

The day spring was lost

Fog in May 1

Lost to the fog and the rain

on this first day of May.

~

Gone is the early light of a spring morning

replaced with a dull palette of grey.

~

But, the birds, they are still singing

and courting amid the apple blossom.

~

And, the abundance of green

has not disappeared with the sun.

~

Spring, you are not lost, oh no…

you are still here; despite your winter guise.
