I write…

…because, in a blank sheet of paper or a white screen lies an open road of possibility; a clear horizon waiting to be explored. Sometimes the words burst out like spring blossom and other times they feel trapped like a fly in a window.

It’s not always easy, but I like that, it forces me to find a way around the words; to make some kind of sense of the tangled mess that’s in my head, and sometimes what unravels, is beautiful.

I have been surprised, disappointed and frustrated, but when I am writing, I feel like I should be.

Sunday

Sunlight through apple tree

A day of happy nothings

and a warm bed

that begs you to stay

a while longer.

~

A day of hope

for the week ahead

and perhaps a gladness

for a tough week passed.

~

A day for cups of tea

and a walk in the park;

for hanging out washing

with a birdsong playlist.

~

A time for just being or

falling headlong into a book;

for ironing school clothes

and finishing homework.

~

A chance to just sit

for a few minutes peace

breath deeply

and be thankful.

2 pm

   Apple blossom 1

2 pm today;

the sun and apple blossom

and a much needed cuppa

washed away grey thoughts

and lifted me back up.

~

Thankful

for the beauty of nature…

and tea.

Feathers

I have surrendered my wings;

bound to earth.

~

A knot of flightless feathers

fills my insides.

~

Tears are swallowed

sharp like glass.

~

 My eyes are wide open

yet blind to the light.

~

The sun burns my skin

where once it soothed.

~

I welcome night

to dissolve into the darkness.

Something changed

something changed 1

I sensed it moving in

like a storm; dark

heavy and oppressive.

~

I know the signs

the quietness; deafening

the detachment;  heartbreaking.

~

I knew something had changed,

so I waited for you to come to me,

across the desert; a million miles.

~

Tonight you reached me

weary and eyes filled with pain

and I listened; heart wide  open.

Sometimes

Sometimes

 …

Tulips 1

Tulips 7

Tulips 4 …

Sometimes

there is an unexpected

and totally wonderful light.

Magical and fleeting,

breathtaking and ethereal;

unaware entirely

of its own beauty.

‘a sunny spot’

Sometimes, a sunny spot takes your breath away…this was one.

I am so grateful my camera was charged!

Home is…

 Home is 1

~

Home is where our hearts have spilled

with happiness and heartbreak

and soaked thick memories

into these bricks and mortar.

~

And when we are no more

our voices will echo here forever,

silently suspended in time;

lingering as others before us have.

Window

window

~

A window of opportunity

grasped with both hands;

a need for escape

on this fine day

with no school or work

we travelled to the coast

and breathed it all in.

~

Hoping for another window…maybe tomorrow,

to sit down and enjoy this.

Gather

Gather 1

~

I gather to me

as memories

this feast of nature

imprinted forever; such beauty

to leave me almost gasping

in awe and bowing at your feet.

~

Nature; a mother

with a most generous heart

her spring offerings;

trees heavy with blossom

white silk

spewing from branch.

~

Against bluest sky

bursting with life;

joyful

and I, in love

with this season

that ignites my soul.

Place

Tulips 2

~

Sometimes you find yourself in a place; a situation you hadn’t reckoned on. Sunday was supposed to be a relaxed day with a lovely meal cooked by wonderful friends. Alas, instead, I managed to somehow slip in the shower and launch myself onto the bathroom floor…not a good move.

After a trip to A & E, happily nothing was broken, I find myself unable to use my right arm properly and a trip to the physiotherapist planned for next week. But, it could have been a lot worse as I was heading straight towards a wall, putting my arm out was probably the best thing I could have done.

So today I am sat at home, a little weary, tapping on the iPad with one hand but thankful that my fall has left me relatively unscathed.

I hope you had a good weekend, without any mishaps!
